Bimini Trip
After a week away, I'm back to the reality of homework, jobs, and all sorts of other stress.
The lingering itch of sunburn, the unpacked bags, the pictures, and the memories are all I have left now to remind me of the awesome time I had with my friends this Spring Break.
Thanks to the inspiration of Katie's spring break a few years ago, I was able to plan one just the same, but probably cooler. ;-) (mainly cause a huge tool that changed his last name to include an "o" with a line through it didn't come)
Nine friends and I spent one week on a 50 foot sailboat, sailing from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to Bimini, Bahamas, and then back to Miami. It was an amazing time. Bimini is the closest Bahamian island to the US mainland, being only about 50 miles east of Florida. Despite being so close to the US, Bimini somehow remains to be a quiet, rustic, charming, and beautiful island practically empty of tourists (even at Spring Break time!). The 11 of us (including our captain, Ray) had the island to share with the 1500 locals, as we spent time in the sand floored "End of the World Saloon," ate amazing seafood (conch, turtle, and lobster), walked around the island, SCUBA and snorkeled, explored a shipwreck and the schools of fish and wildlife around it, and with the soundtrack of reggae and the taste of sweet rum, leisurely sailed around the uninhabited islands to Bimini's south.

Hey Eric,
I want to go on Spring Break, too!!! I am sitting here in freezing Germany with no sun :o(. I just found your blog and thought it would be cool to get in touch. I am Sonja, former LCP of AIESEC Heilbronn. Maybe we met at SSC 04 if you were there? I am coming to the US this summer to get my Masters thanks to a Fulbright grant :o). You can meet me on msn: sonjaschultheiss@hotmail.com. Would be glad to get in touch.
Liebe GrĂ¼sse,
Sonja
Hey, great photos Eric! They look so much like mine from my trip... except for mine include the tool who changed his last name which ends in an o with a line through it!! hahahaha I'm so glad that everything worked out so well for you as it did when I went. I still can't think of a better way to spend spring break, can you? Can't wait to see the rest of your pics! I was going to tell you about www.winkflash.com I just ordered a photo book on there of my pictures from Suriname, and it's AMAZING!!! They were just running a special too, 40% off, so an 80 page book only cost me $35. Shoot me an email if you're interested in doing a book like this... I just did a ton of research on all the different websites that offer the service... and it's way cheaper than printing 4x6's, buying a photo album, and organizing them all. Talk to you soon!!!!!
